Art Deco

Despite Art Deco’s 20^th century birth the style has made its way to being the ‘it’ interior fashion of 2016. The heterogeneous style has notes of the Dutch ‘De Stijl’ movement from post WW1, bringing a sharpness and boldness of lines lashed with piquant colours. Art Deco brings a brightness to dark spaces. From refined cornice etching to wallpaper popping with boisterous colour no part of the home need be boring.     

Scandinavian

We can’t discuss home interiors without the on-trend style of Scandinavian or ‘Scandi’ as it’s otherwise known. Emerging in Western culture largely due to the fashion mecca that is Ikea, Scandinavian has far evolved beyond its conception of monotone colour and mere refinement of the Industrial. This now opulent style references the natural through chrome, brass, leather and wood finishes connoting a fresh and earthy feel to the home. Bringing these sophisticated materials into the home can create a calm and welcoming space.

Vintage

Gone are the days of vintage pertaining to raiding grandpa’s garage. Vintage is no longer vintage or antiquated. This style has found a new place in modern interior rallying around quaint and refined pieces, from the diamond in the rough find at the markets to a gracefully weathered French ornament. Dust off the once out-dated vinyl player as a new living room feature, bring nostalgia and character to the home with this modern and purposely kitsch homage to the past.  
 
Bringing your flair to these in vogue interior styles will have you feeling right at home in the style of today. Keep in mind there’s no hard and fast rule to interior design, what’s hot one day can just as soon be not the next. It’s important to not be bored with your surroundings. You needn’t redesign your space each time a new design emerges but adding a new pop of colour here or there can’t hurt.
